The Parishes of Ross & Cromarty
A parish is an ancient administrative area of church government. Up to the 19th C, parishes also had important social (administering charitable relief) and educational (parish schools) functions.
Note that the division of parishes between Wester Ross, Easter Ross & the Black Isle is arbitrary, particularly in the case of the eastern extent of Wester Ross (in some commentaries the term Mid Ross is found for this 'in-between' territory).
